Human factors and application of new technologies in the mining industry - workshop

The Safety and Health Commission for the Mining and the Other Extractive Industries (SHCMOEI) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health organise jointly a workshop on human factors and application of new technologies in the mining industry. The workshop will be held in Tornio on 22-24 September, 1999. The aim of the workshop is to discuss and exchange views and experience of introduction of automation, information technology and control systems as well as occupational safety in mines.

The basic idea is that new technology, when correctly introduced, raises both the productivity of the mine and at the same time improves the safety and working conditions. On the other hand, the new technology can bring about new hazards that are not yet known well enough.

The workshop will be attended by about 160 participants including members of the SHCMOEI as well as authorities and representatives for companies involved with the mining industry from all EU countries.
